Can a car be hurt from not starting it for a long period of time especially with old gas?

It's a 89 ford taurus that I haven't driven or even started in 3 months until today. When I started it, it ran a few seconds then shut off this happend 3 times when I left it to idle. It didn't shut off when I applied throttle so I guess it had to heat up and run some of that 3 month old gas through the system. I hope no damage came to it. I know your suposed to start it up in the winter to avoid the fluids freezing and causing expansion that can lead to cracks. We've been having some cold nights here lately.

You're ok with only three months. Longer periods can cause the seals to crack. I don't even think three months is too long to let gas sit. Just drive it to the station and put in some more. Something might be wrong with your automatic choke though. If it wont idle until it's warmed up.
